By the Numbers (7/13-7/19)

This week my spending should be  a little less, mainly cause I am going on a work-related trip next week so I don’t have as many opportunities to dine out with Bae this weekend!

  • In-n-Out – $5
  • Carl’s Jr. – $6 (BOGO free!)
  • Baja Sonora – $6 (finally remembered the Mexican restaurant’s name)
  • TGI Friday’s – $15 (another BOGO free!)
  • Indian Restaurant – $22
  • CPK – $5 (after $10 voucher)

Total: $59

There have been a whole bunch of BOGO coupons floating around these days. No reason to pay full price when you can get a 50% discount right?

Although… I have noticed a disturbing trend, I think fast food places have been jacking up their prices to compensate for the coupons… I mean why would anyone buy a single burger (no fries no drinks) for almost six bucks when you can just hit up an authentic Chinese restaurant and get a meal of eel and rice or sirloin cubes and udon for about nine bucks a piece? Just boggles my mind how expensive the fast food restaurants have gotten lately. Thank god In-n-Out isn’t following that trend and their most expensive on-the-menu burger is $2.99.

One more thing that freaked me out was how TGIF’s menu now displays the calorie count of every entree. Dude, I didn’t realize that the ribs & shrimp dish was almost 2,000 calories and the steak & shrimp was about 1,900 calories. That’s a day’s worth of calories!! How the hey do they stuff so much calories on one plate? It’s like we’re scarfing down a platter of lard, but prettier. Reminds me of when I was surprised my college showed one serving of spinach was 450 calories. And I thought spinach was suppose to be healthy for you.

Not to nitpick here, but our family eats a lot of spinach, and I can assure you it is not 450 calories per serving my itself. I am pretty sure spinach is only 5 or 10 calories per cup. Either your college menu was incorrect, or it was referring to some side dish that merely had a little spinach in it. For example, if you make a spinach dip with sour cream and cheese in it, I could see it pushing 450 calories, but that’s all from the dairy products.

Yea it wasn’t just lightly cooked or raw spinach, it was spinach cream I believe. But still I was surprised just a tiny portion of it could contain as much calories as a burger!
